* In order to reliably manufacture cable end caps made of soft PVC, we require the following for the production of the 9 variants: Minimum wall thicknesses of 0.8–1.5 mm at the open end of the caps.
We will be happy to inform you of the planned minimum wall thickness in our meaningful offers with.

Article features

  • We exclusively use soft PVC from our Covytec® material series for the production of cable end caps.
  • Cable end caps are manufactured from Covytec 6691 with a hardness of approx. 68° Shore A.
  • The PVC material is flexible and allows the cable end caps to be used for all cable diameters within the recommended cable cross-sections.
  • Thanks to the stepped geometry without sharp-edged transitions inside the cable protection cap, the cable end slides effortlessly into the cap's matching inner diameter.
  • As soon as you feel slight resistance when inserting the cable, the cable end cap is securely attached.
  • There are 9 standard sizes to choose from for protecting cable ends for cable cross-sections from 4 to 70 mm.
  • Free product samples of most sizes are available from stock
  • Clean and safe thanks to the absence of saline heat transfer media
  • • Detectability, increased UV protection and ESD capability are optional material properties.

The easy to assemble and the secure hold the end caps on the recommended cable dimensions are the remarkable features and benefits this standardised design of protective caps for the cable industry.

The nine standard dimensions available, with rounded, gradual cross-sectional changes inside the caps, are ideally suited for Protection of cable ends from Cable cross-sections from 4 to 70 mm.

The soft PVC material Covytec 6691  is the ideal material for manufacturing flexible rubber cable protection caps, which are ideal for use as transport protection caps, storage protection caps or cable end caps for companies in the Cable industry, who deal with cable assembly or for suppliers to the Automotive industry, that deal with the manufacture of cable harnesses and cable assemblies are suitable.

In our blog post Let us show you how small protective caps can have a big impact in the wire and cable industry.

Process description – Manufacture of dipped PVC cable protection caps

The PVC dipping process is a pressureless manufacturing process which, unlike injection moulding, requires only a very simple tool. A dipping tool that has been heated in an oven is immersed in a bath of liquid PVC. When the hot moulding tool comes into contact with the PVC paste, also known as plastisol, a skin forms on the outer contour of the moulding core, which develops to the desired wall thickness of the cable protection caps by the end of a defined dwell time in the dipping bath. The wall thickness to be achieved depends on the temperature of the tool, the dwell time of the tool in the immersion bath and the viscosity of the PVC material.

After removing the dipping mould from the dipping bath, the excess PVC material runs and drips off, whereby flow marks and drop formation at the closed end of the rectangular caps cannot be avoided.

The mould with the PVC layer is then heated again in order to achieve the rubber-elastic properties of the PVC material. This work step is often referred to as gelling.

After cooling, the cable end caps can be removed from the stepped cores using an auxiliary tool.

The process of manufacturing PVC dip moulded parts We describe this in great detail with general design, assembly and quality information on the product pages of the PVC round capsthe Rectangular caps, the product page of the Coating of metallic components and in the knowledge section under Manufacturing processes.

Residue-free from heat transfer media

Our PVC dipped parts are manufactured with a salt-free heat transfer system - completely without lithium nitrate or potassium nitrate - for Maximum purity and safety. The result is particularly clean, dimensionally stable and durable PVC-coated components that meet the highest quality requirements – manufactured in an environmentally friendly manner, while also offering improved occupational safety and easier disposal.

*Light colours that are exposed to outdoor weathering can be made UV-stable by adding a formulation ingredient. Dark colours such as black and anthracite grey are generally UV-resistant.
As both the base material (PVC plastisol) and a UV stabiliser have a yellowish inherent colour, the accuracy of the RAL colour shade is minimally affected. We confirm the colour shade similar to the RAL number.

The standard soft PVC type used by HAMCO Covytec 6691 With a Shore A hardness of 68, it has sufficient elasticity for secure assembly, regardless of the standard or special colour selected.

The stepped geometry without sharp edges inside the cable protection cap allows the cable end to be easily pushed to the appropriate inner diameter of the cap and to overcome a final small resistance that occurs when expanding the smallest possible inner diameter.

Cable sealing cap, drawingThe flexibility of the soft Covytec PVC type ensures that the barely noticeable expansion after installation immediately returns to its original state and that the technically smooth inner contour of the PVC cable protection cap fits snugly against the cable sheath or the cable to be protected.

Both the Static friction as well as from the elongation of the material centrally acting compressive forces already provide a captive hold the protective caps that have been fitted.

The economic aspect The submerged cable protection caps are located next to the cost-effective production especially in the Usability of a step cap for different cable cross-sections in accordance with our recommendations. In addition, the caps can be removed from the cable end with a little effort, collected in a container provided, and returned to the assembly line.

We are firmly convinced that there is a high probability that many of the products you have procured to date or for the Injection moulding process developed injection-moulded cover caps from polyolefins such as PE, PP replaced by dipped protective caps can be realised. In dialogue with our customers' responsible contact persons from the purchasing, technology, design and development departments, we determine which Priorities and wishes from their point of view.
