Type of execution

Tolerances:

  • Inner length (L): +/- 2.0mm
  • Wall thickness* (s): +/- 0.25mm

* In order to be able to produce corner caps made of soft PVC reliably, we require a Minimum wall thickness of 1.0 mm.

Article features

  • We only use soft PVC from the Covytec ® material series for the production of round caps.
  • Corner caps are usually manufactured from Covytec® 6691 in approx. 68° Shore A, but can be produced in other degrees of hardness.
  • The PVC material is rubber-flexible and can be used for a wide range of applications thanks to its material properties.
  • There is a choice of 9 standard colours and other special colours on request
  • Free product samples of most sizes are available from stock
  • Clean and safe thanks to the absence of saline heat transfer media
  • • Detectability, increased UV protection and ESD capability are optional material properties.

Application examples

  • Profile protection
  • Protective cap
  • Cover cap

The essential Advantages dipped corner caps are both their quick and Easy to install on sheet metal and folded profiles as well as thin angle iron with longer leg lengths.

In contrast to hard plastics such as Polyethylene (PE for short) or Polypropylene (PP for short)are the rubber-flexible Covytec ® soft PVC types the ideal material for the Use as transport protection caps, bearing protection caps and end caps.
The shock-absorbing properties of the PVC used and the choice of a signal colour make corner caps just as much a part of the profile geometry as individually adapted corner caps. Edge protection caps or Angle caps to products in the field of occupational safety.  They minimise the risk of injury from sharp-edged profile ends protruding freely into the room.

Process description - Production of PVC corner caps using the dipping process

The production of corner caps using the dipping process is very interesting from an economic point of view, as only simple and therefore cost-effective dipping moulds need to be available for production. The multiple dip mould is heated in an oven and its cores are dipped into a bath of liquid PVC. When the hot moulding tool comes into contact with the PVC paste, also known as plastisol, a skin forms on the outer contour of the shaping cores, which forms the desired wall thickness of the corner caps by the end of a defined dwell time in the dipping bath.
The wall thickness to be achieved depends on the temperature of the mould, the dwell time of the mould in the dip tank and the viscosity of the PVC material. The height of the protective caps is controlled by the immersion depth of the mould cores.
After removing the dipping mould from the dipping bath, the excess PVC material runs and drips off, whereby flow marks and drop formation at the closed end of the rectangular caps cannot be avoided.

The multi-cavity mould with the PVC layer is then heated again to achieve the rubber-elastic properties of the PVC material. This work step is often referred to as gelling.

After cooling, the corner caps are manually removed from the cores using an auxiliary tool.

*Light colours that are exposed to outdoor weathering can be made UV-stable by adding a formulation ingredient. Dark colours such as black and anthracite grey are generally UV-resistant.
As both the base material (PVC plastisol) and a UV stabiliser have a yellowish inherent colour, the accuracy of the RAL colour shade is minimally affected. We confirm the colour shade similar to the RAL number.

Material

The standard soft PVC used by HAMCO from the Covytec® material series, which comes in 68 Shore A as standard, but is also available in other degrees of hardness and a large selection of Standard or special colours Despite its rubber-like properties, the material has sufficient dimensional stability for assembly.

The flexibility of Covytec® PVC materials ultimately ensures that the technically smooth inner contour of the PVC corner caps moulds itself to the wall of the profile end to be protected.

A simple structure of the Dipping toolsespecially with customised dimensions ensures that we can offer you the best possible service with our excellently equipped In-house toolmaking measurable Cost and time benefits in the realisation.

An important prerequisite that may need to be taken into account from the environment of the food industry is the detectability of the PVC material used in the Blog post Detectable caps is discussed in detail.

Material

  • Material for corner caps, protective cap for corners.
  • Soft PVC, approx. 60° Shore A (other hardnesses and special versions on request)

Important quality information

The Wall thickness is measured non-destructively at the open end of the cap.
Due to the process, it continuously increases towards the closed end of the immersed caps.
Drain marks and drain drops At the closed end, they cannot be completely avoided due to the nature of the process.
