For the production of customised edge protection, we exclusively use soft PVC from Covytec material series.
The shock-absorbing properties of a soft profile end cap with a Shore A hardness of approx. 68 are enhanced by the use of Covytec 6691 achieved. However, depending on the intended use, higher degrees of hardness may also be recommended.
PVC is a flexible material and, thanks to its properties, can be used for customised cross-sectional geometries.
The post-processing step of gelling ensures that the flexible edge protection caps are manufactured with a slight undersize and can therefore be mounted in a loss-proof manner.

By avoiding the use of salt-based heat transfer fluids, the edge protection caps are clean and safe.

Process description – Manufacture of PVC edge protection caps using the dipping process

In contrast to injection moulding, the PVC dipping process is a pressureless manufacturing process for the production of edge protection caps made of PVC or polyvinyl chloride. The dipping cores, which are heated in an oven and then dipped into a tank filled with liquid PVC plastisol, precisely replicate the outer contour of the steel or aluminium profiles to be protected. *Light colours that are exposed to outdoor weathering can be made UV-stable by adding a formulation ingredient. Dark colours such as black and anthracite grey are generally UV-resistant.
As both the base material (PVC plastisol) and a UV stabiliser have a yellowish inherent colour, the accuracy of the RAL colour shade is minimally affected. We confirm the colour shade similar to the RAL number.

The flexibility of Covytec PVC materials ensures that the technically smooth inner contour of the PVC edge protection caps fits snugly and securely onto the outer wall of the standard or customised profile to be protected.

Important quality information

The Wall thickness is measured non-destructively at the open end of the cap.
Due to the process, it continuously increases towards the closed end of the immersed caps.
Drain marks and drain drops At the closed end, they cannot be completely avoided due to the nature of the process.
