Not every plastic component can be produced effectively using injection moulding or dip moulding. The casting process can be an attractive alternative, particularly in the case of complex geometries, thick walls or significant variations in wall thickness.
HAMCO manufactures bespoke moulded parts from soft PVC in accordance with technical specifications. Whether the process is suitable for a specific component depends on its geometry, function, the desired material properties and its intended use.
It is therefore particularly worthwhile to carry out a technical assessment at an early stage when a component is difficult or uneconomical to manufacture using other production processes.
The casting process is particularly suitable for components that require large wall thicknesses, significant variations in wall thickness or complex geometries. Even if a desired component shape is difficult or uneconomical to produce using other processes, casting can be an attractive manufacturing option.
Both simple and more complex geometries can be produced as bespoke castings. The specific combination of component geometry, function and material requirements is always the decisive factor.
Thanks to the comparatively high degree of flexibility in terms of wall thickness, it is also possible to manufacture solid soft PVC components for which other manufacturing solutions are not readily suitable.
HAMCO manufactures castings to customer-specific specifications. These may be based on technical drawings, CAD data, samples or specific details regarding the desired function of the component.
The specified component geometry is checked to ensure it can be realised in the manufacturing process. If, for example, demoulding cannot be carried out reliably or the geometry is likely to result in increased air entrapment during casting, design modifications may be necessary.
Wall thicknesses and variations in wall thickness are also taken into account during the assessment, to ensure that the component can be manufactured reliably and reproducibly.
The surface finish produced by the casting process is not suitable for components that require a high-quality finish. In the case of technical castings, the focus is often on functionality and the required geometry.
Depending on the component geometry and the required fit accuracy, secondary machining may be necessary. Even if a refined surface finish is required, HAMCO can machine the cast component accordingly after demoulding. Depending on the geometry and requirements, a belt grinding machine can be used for this purpose, for example.
This makes it possible to adapt castings to the required dimensions and surface finish specifications even when these cannot be achieved directly by the casting process alone.
